MDSS stands for Maintenance Decision Support System. It is a computer-based system designed to help manage activities related to maintenance of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, airports etc, by providing recommendations, predictions and suggestions based on different models and data. There are several synonyms for the word MDSS which include but not limited to: Maintenance Management Systems (MMS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Asset Performance Management (APM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM). These terms are often used interchangeably and refer to a wide range of software systems, technologies, tools and practices aimed at optimizing maintenance programmes, reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
